Alpha Militaria
Великобритания
Добавлен 29 июн 2020
Alpha Militaria was setup over Christmas 2019 by three friends looking to declutter the online space air rifle space with some honest, impartial reviews and insight. We currently operate online as review portal and magazine, and on RUclips where we have in-depth guides and information.
Richard Saunders, our Editor and Presenter, has been shooting air rifles for nearly forty years. Today he hunts and carries out pest control on more than a thousand acres spread across different locations in the south of England. He is a regular contributor to Airgun Shooter magazine, writing mainly hunting features and product reviews, as well The Airgun Show on RUclips. In addition, he is a hunting consultant and adviser to airgun companies including Daystate, Brocock and MTC Optics.

Any idea how to decock the Daystate Delta Wolf? LoL
Intrested to know if you adjusted POI for the 20m and 30m shot on the .177, or did you always aim for the dot on board without any zero adjustment. Also, what range did you zero at?
Per cortesia potresti indicarmi la marca e le caratteristiche dell' ottica montata sulla tua carabina ???? Grazie.

Per cortesia vorrei conoscere la marca e le caratteristiche dell' ottica montata sulla carabina. Grazie.
Hi. I believe it was a Hawke Vantage but don't recall the details beyond that. Hawke have a great range though and are well worth checking out. Thanks for watching.
This is one of the most serious rewievs I’ve seen in a long time, thank you for applaing all information. I’ve just ordered the same gun but it’s going ti come in sub12 version as Im in to pest controlling. What are your thoughts about mounts and shooting pestbirds att full speed in 75 meters? I’ve got 3 or 4 scopes laying around not beeing used and they are Nikko stirlings (6-24 by 50, 4-16 by 50, and some chineese crap) what do you think would be the best set up for my new rifle?
Hi Chris. Thanks very much, I'm glad you found the video helpful. To be honest, 75 yards is way too far to be planning to shoot quarry with an air rifle, especially one of 12 ft/lbs. Please don't believe what you see on RUclips! 30 metres with a .22 rifle or 40 with a .177 is more realistic. I'm sure either of your Nikko Stirlings would be ideal, and I've always found Sportsmatch mounts to be the best and they have a lifetime guarantee. Spend some time on the range and see what kind of distance you can put five shots within a 10p coin size group from the positions you expect to be hunting from - that will tell you what kind of range you should be shooting at. And once you've zeroed your rifle (I zero mine at 30m) put some targets out at different distances and work out how much hold over and under you'll need to apply. Have fun!
Old video, but I will ask anyways: How does the 30 ft lb relate to a .22LR rimfire?
Hi Johannes. 30 ft/lbs is still pretty low powered in the big scheme of things. Compared to .22 LR, the velocity in a 30 ft/lbs rifle is almost comparable to a subsonic round (circa 920 fps for16 grain pellets). But a .22 LR round will be a lot heavier (typically around 40 grain). I hope that helps.
Very thorough & well presented review Thankyou
Glad it was helpful!
Absolute pants rifle I've stripped loads down in the last two weeks the sear is a stamped piece rough as fik brass dust every were the hammer on all four were covered in brass fillings the hammer spring and weight load of pisss
Both of mine are cracking. Thousands of shots through them, as accurate as anything I've ever shot and not put a foot wrong.
Condescending shite
I must apologise to you Richard I commented that a s510 /weihrauch hw100 is better at half the price I just bought a redwolf midnight .177 and at 30metres I took 40 shots and it’s probably the best group I’ve had in almost 50 years of shooting it measured 5.4 mm in size so basically one hole and I’m a decent shooter but I put it down to the guns barrel and electronics the feet spread was only 6fps that’s incredible.
No apology needed! The S510 and HW100 are incredible rifles, but the Red Wolf is another league. Thanks for watching.
This was an interesting review, and your enthusiasm for the look and bolt came through to interest me. Do you know what the break in the cylinder is? It is above the front manometer and appears to go all around the cylinder. Also, since air goes in the front of the cylinder, how can there be baffles in the cylinder? Thanks if you know.
Thanks very much. I'm afraid I don't know much about the insides of the rifle as it was loaned to me and had to go back. I'd imagine the air cylinder doesn't go to the end of the barrel and the baffles are located in front. But happy to be told otherwise. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the video, now I have better clear idea, I will take the Weihrauch than other, can you kindly suggest also the tipe of aptics that is better use, the proposal il for field/hunting shot, Thanks
Hi Marco. Most decent quality optics will work on the HW97K. I use MTC on mine...
Very cool rifle you had commented that was a brand new rifle there may be a break-in process required with this after that your groups will improve just saying great job with a video
Thanks very much.
Great vid as usual Rich, thank you. Folks on RUclips are already recommending alternative magazines as I’m sure you’re aware, I think FX could really up their game there. I’m still looking forward to an Alpha Militaria cap when you guys get around to it.
Thanks John. Hope you are well. The first cap is yours!
Nice review Richard. You are very thorough. Not very good reviews over here. I'd say a good price here for 995 00 here the states. Thanks Bud!
Thanks very much. Much appreciated.
I'm not impressed with that shot count on the fac version.
The important question to ask yourself is how many you need (if hunting). If it bothers you, a day tripper bottle will help. Plenty of other rifles with larger shot counts though. Thanks for watching.
I’m just now getting back into air rifles after being away from them for about 17 years. I just bought a Gamo Wildcat whisper 177 and I was tempted to return it and get a 22 since I haven’t opened the box yet. I’m happy I watched this because I’m deciding to keep it now. I’ll get a 22 a little later
Good choice Joe! Thanks for watching.
@@alphamilitaria2756 I just noticed my comment was 13 days ago. Since this comment, I have the Gamo 177, I bought a Crosman 1322 with upgrades, and now I’m waiting on a Crosman Vantage .22. Cal that’s in the mail lol.
When was this rifle released? I ask because they are on pre-order everywhere I've looked, when is the official release? PS. It's one hell of a sweet looking bit of kit.
Hi. They are available now...Try Sportsman Gun Centre if you're in the UK.
@@RichardSaunders-w9b Same again, pre order, pellpax told me they can get them end of august, must be sold out everywhere.
They are coming into the UK but selling out quickly as they are so popular. I've been waiting two months for an FAC rifle. Its a case of keeping your eyes peeled or putting your name down as a pre-order at Sportsman Gun Centre. They are the official UK importer so will get theirs before anyone else!
@@alphamilitaria2756 I pre-ordered at pellpax just over two weeks ago, they said end of august...maybe, I'll bookmark Sportsman Gun Centre and proberbly cancel with pellpax.
Has a “silencer”? Seems pretty loud to me
Unfortunately a silencer won't do anything about mechanical noise. Having a few microphones close to the rifle doesn't help either!
What distance?
30 metres.
Very interesting and quite different to what I was expecting, not having shot an FAC air rifle. Mind you, I didn’t see much evidence of running😁😁
I'm built for comfort, not speed.
@@alphamilitaria2756😂😂😂😂😂
Hi Rich, Thanks for a great review. That looks like a great air rifle and if I had the chance to own one of those as a youngster, and I'd have loved to, and you'd have had to peel me off the ceiling! The stock and blueing look fabulous. Having listened to some of the air rifle tuners on here, its not always at 11.9, a sub 12ftlb air rifle functions at its best. Many say around 10.5 ftlb is good, which is what this BSA Meteor is doing. I'd have loved that air rifle back in the day. My late father left me a BSA Meteor, which he had serviced himself. As a youngster, I wasn't allowed to do anything like that, have tools or airguns either. In the eighties, I suffered the rule, being seen and not heard... Just to prove a point, last year I made a project out of that air rifle and its buzz/twang. One thing that also inspired me, was that not many people would do what I was going to do. I took the rifle apart, which was all nicely lubed from my father. I made a top hat from delrin bar. I sleeved the spring inside the piston and the spring guide, to take out all the play and loosness. I replaced the piston and breech seals, properly lubed with the rellevent greases and re- assembled. I'm no air rifle tuner. However, the air rifle shot great, and much improved. The buzz/twang had gone, more of a zip noise, and there was less recoil. I was super pleased with, infact and showed to myself, how someone with little knowledge of air rifle tuning, can make a difference. It was so pleasing to realise the improvements in the air rifle. I think at that time, the BSA Meteor's were shooting at around 8ftlb, the Mark5. Best wishes, Ian.
Sounds like you did a great job Ian.
Great review - had my HW95L tuned by Paul Short and it shoots beautifully. I love the lighter weight of this rifle and it does just what it says on the tin.
Hiya mate.....does the hw 95 have a spring or gas ram system?
He does great work. I'm not surprised it shoots beautifully. Thanks for watching.
Its a springer. The HW90 is the only Weihrauch gas ram and a good one at that.
At practical range both are fine. Doing range work out to what you can hit consistently and knowing you hold over/under is a must. .177 leaves the barrel faster but thats because it needs to, to match or reach the same power of the .22. Used both in various rifles from spring to pcp. Don't have a preference tbh. Both at 30yards deliver enough energy to drop the target, even though the .22 will deliver more than .177. End of day doesn't matter the size of the pellet, its the person behind the trigger.
Hi Richard I have a regal . Just got a revere. But unfortunately the side lever linkage has some much movement/ play in it . I will obviously. Ware with use but very disappointed it left the factory like that . I don’t think Daystate are quite as good as there once were. The barrel shroud rattles in the barrel band . Poor for a £1165 rifle .
Hi Michael. I'm assuming because you say about it leaving the factory, you bought the rifle brand new? If that's the case, take it back to your gun shop and ask them to address the issue under warranty. Its what its for!
@@alphamilitaria2756 Hi Richard yes it was new . Yes i have sent it back now and so far Daystate have been helpful and are going to fit a new cocking mechanism . They couldn’t say how it managed to leave them line that . But hopefully all will be good soon .
Hi Richard, appreciate it’s a bit more expensive, but would you have the DRS or a HW100 if you were buying one rifle ?
Hi Miles. I love my HW100, but it would be the DRS for me right now. Just on weight alone...
@@alphamilitaria2756Got it. High praise! Thank you for the reply Richard.
That be better be some tough varnish though, you would be a bit miffed marking the wood.
No varnish but the laminate is pretty tough. No issues with any marking so far...
It would be nice to know the muzzle velocity, the trigger pull and the loudness.
If you ask nicely...
Hi Richard I presume the macavity is up for review shortly just wondering if it will be sub 12 or fac.
Hi Paul. We reviewed the 30 ft/lbs Macavity some time ago. I've not heard of a 12 ft/lbs rifle yet though...
Pick mine up today 👍great review btw
Thanks very much for watching.
...EXCELLENT video, thanks!!!😀
Thanks very much for watching.
Something bothers me, 22 pellets fits a larger bore and should require more power to give it momentum, yet it uses less gas than 177 pellet.
I know. It seems counter-intuitive doesn't it? I think it has something to do with the fact that more air is needed to impart velocity to a smaller surface areas. But I could be completely wrong! Thanks for watching.
Shame it didn't have a pic rail, especially if aimed at hunting/ pest control also it doesn't seem to have option for a bipod I was going to trade in my 110 otherwise
You can specify a Picatinny rail I believe.
Great review Richard, Mrs has one in . 177, damn accurate it is anawl, I put a smidgen of grease on the probe and left it in, and put a, snazzy foster cap on it from best fittings.. It won't drop out, indeed when you pull the cap off to charge it up, it doesn't pull the probe out.. Looks cool anawl.. Mrs loves it
Nice Mark. Lucky Mrs Homer!
is it very quiet like quiet enough to shoot in the backyard without anyone wondering anything
yes, as long as you have a quiet backstop...
what is the weight of it and do you think iteigh to mch or its too long?
02:35 and I'd say it's pretty much a standard weight/length compared to many other rifles.
Great review as usual Richard. These days I’m only really interested in bullpup/take down/ folding stock options because of their sheer portability but I can make an exception for this one. I was shown one recently in my local gun shop and it handled beautifully and even with its conventional lines it actually weighed less than the high end - light as a feather - Bullpup I was supposed to be checking out. Shame that FX won’t change the design of the their magazines to one that’s simpler and doesn’t hang out of the side of the gun and while they’re at it why don’t all manufacturers just drop probes in favour of foster fittings. In spite of these little irritations (for me anyway) - I’m totally sold on the sheer simplicity, handing and portability of this little gun and for £750 it’s a no brainer. Thanks for the review Richard, it’s nice to know there isn’t some hidden flaw with the gun but I suppose when a manufacture like FX decide to keep it simple they’re going to get it right first time around.
So good in fact I had to buy one myself...Thanks for watching.
If there is an afterlife I hope you come back as a rabbit
I think I'd come and dig up your garden if I did.
Looks like a really nice rifle, but I lost interest when I saw the faffing about with the magazine. Simple is best for me. So I think I'll be sticking with the ever faithful HW100. A pity they couldn't come up with a simolar style of mag for FX rifles ?.
The magazine really isn't that bad. I've used worse.
Another great job Rich. Ya know...we share the same name. When the hell can we share a range?😂😂
Any time you like Rich.
@@alphamilitaria2756 I wish it was now..work really sucks today😆😆😆
An interesting vertical climb with the first 6-8 shots..🤨
Glad you found it interesting...
Could be velocity variation but more likely shooter error. That was actually a pretty impressive group considering he didn't seem to be using a rear bag.
Sir, can you do one thing for me please? Can you show us that I have 200 shots in 22cal, because I can’t see that happening
I shot well over 100 rats with the DRS and an Arken Zulus when I recorded an episode of The Airgun Show a couple of weeks back. Still plenty of air in the tank so I don't think 200 is too far off. Thanks for watching.
@@alphamilitaria2756 I don’t even get that amount of shots from a king 22cal with 600mm

The FX DRS seems to be a great value for the money. Excellent review, Richard!
Thanks very much for watching William.
had a shoot of one last week , great little rifle , loved the trigger on it
Hi, Nice review, curious though you mentioned shoot count .177 140 and the 22 cal at 200 shot count, wouldn’t that be the opposite? Thanks.
Even the opposite way around it can’t give you 140 shot in 22
After 50 shots you need to refilled
@@christopherjames2825makes sense
Hi Kurt. It seems counter intuitive I know, but .177 shot counts are always lower than .22. I'd wish I knew why, but there you go.
@@christopherjames2825 Except you don't.
Hi ... Is there anywhere to attach a bipod ?
No, you'd have to drill in for a stud...
What’s the scope ?
Mtc copperhead nice scopes.

Wouldn't like to try and load that magazine on a cold dark nite Richard all the quarry would have gone ps of all the air rifles and magazines the hw100 is still king
Hasn’t been king for a long time now but still a very very good rifle
You'd have to get through 14 shots first before you have to worry about that...
Great review this is going to be my next rifle love the weight and simplicity, just hope there is enough room on that rear rail for a Cheetah NV scope.
Thanks very much. I used an Arken Zulus on the DRS recently and it worked just fine...
